Abeokuta medical varsity to admit students in Sept, VC tells EES

The Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), will admit its first set of students in September 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade, has said.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of the Egba Economic Summit Group (EES) at the university’s temporary facility donated by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the Vice Chancellor said the planned take-off had been made possible through the support of various stakeholders.

He stated that, “the plan to admit students in September 2025 has been made possible by FUNAAB through the space and Wole Soyinka library donated, while FMC is standing as a teaching hospital for practicals.”

The delegation of the Egba Economic Summit was led by its President, Mr. Yinka Chris Coker, who assured that “Egbaland will give the needed support to help the university to take off smoothly.”

In his remarks, the Vice President of the summit and member of the university’s planning committee, Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, recalled the role Egbaland played in ensuring the university became a reality, including his own presentation at the Senate Public Hearing in Abuja, backed by the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

He described the delegation as “great achievers from Egbaland” and introduced key members. These included the current President, Mr. Chris Coker, “who worked and retired from Mobil before coming home to set up a farm in Egbaland.”

He also introduced Chief Shina Luwoye, former President of the Egba Economic Summit, who he said “worked for years in Shell before retiring and subsequently established Ecogas and was also a former President of PENGASSAN.” He added, “If the University requires trade union skills to resolve any matter, EES has that in Chief Luwoye who is also known as Mayegun.”

Introducing Engr. Ola Sobande, he said, “He is a great alumnus of King's College, Lagos, who studied Mechanical Engineering at Swansea University in the United Kingdom under Shell Scholarship before joining Shell where he worked for years before retiring. He was at a time the MD of Shell in Brunel as a young engineer. Engr. Ola Sobande played a vital role as a major brain behind the formation of Egba Economic Summit Group along with Dr. Kehinde Sogunle. Hence, at over 70, he was always willing and ready to be part of anything that brings development to Egbaland, Ogun State and Nigeria.”

He mentioned other prominent past presidents of the summit to include: Mr. Ade Coker in Houston Texas, Mr. Ayo Biobaku of QMB, Chief Tunji Sunmonu of Houston Texas, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi, Mr. Kehinde Sogunle, Chief Shina Luwoye, and Mr. Yinka Chris Coker.

He further stated, “Passionate people like Captain Temilola Okesanjo who is a member of EES will also support the ICT needs of the university.”

He added that “Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, who is the current chairman of the board, will also support the university as a former SSG of Ogun State and a successful lawyer who is a guru in real estate and hospitality now, and he is the Agba Akin of Egbaland.”

Other supporters named by him included Alhaji Saheed Egbeyemi, Chief Francis Meshioye, Bunmi Lawson, Lateef Surakatu, Bashorun Ladi Adegbite, and others.

“Chief Yinka Kufile is also willing and ready to support the university if properly consulted,” he said, adding that efforts were ongoing to mobilise diaspora support through Egba Associations in the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom, “both in donation and through private partnership arrangement.”

He assured the university that “Engr. Sobande will use his international connections and experience at Nigeria Economic Summit Group where he was a representative of the Oil sector from Shell before birthing the idea of Egba Economic Summit to guide and help the University.”

Adeoye also introduced Prince Abiodun Karunwi, stating that “although Karunwi is a builder whose skill can help the university, he also retired from Total.”

He introduced the Administrative Secretary of the summit, Mrs. Ololade Oseni, as “a committed and dedicated person at EES secretariat and that FUMMSA can reach out to EES members through her at any time.”

He advised the university to “do everything closer to the Federal Medical Centre for security reasons since the state government is willing to release the model school at Idi Aba even if it will cost higher to fix same.”

He expressed appreciation to Prof. Kehinde, the Vice Chancellor of FUNAAB, “for the space provided for the smooth take-off of the university,” and also thanked Prof. Femi Balogun “who did everything possible to make the university a reality along with Prof. Musa Olomu, the former CMD of FMC.”

He concluded that “Egba sons and daughters are willing to support the university.”

Chief Shina Luwoye, in his remarks, advised “that the first Model School offered on lease by the state government should be reconsidered as it is closer to FMC, it is inside the city and on the same route with the permanent site of the university which is around Ajibayo and Jaguna Village along OGTV Ajebo road.”

Engr. Sobande added that there is need “to always collaborate with the community for ease of solving their problems especially those problems associated with anything new.”

Prince Abiodun Karunwi, in his speech, noted that “the role of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun in ensuring that the 170 hectares land for the university has a C of O is a good take-off point.”

Dr. Adeoye also used the occasion to thank Senator Lanre Tejuoso “who sponsored the bill for the establishment of the university,” and Senator Ibikunle Amosun “who ensured it was passed to law using his personal resources and connections.”

He also appreciated former President Muhammadu Buhari “for signing the bill into law,” and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “for appointing the principal officers and council members.”

Special appreciation was extended “to the Minister of Education and Minister of Health for their roles,” and to “the Governor of Ogun State for donating the Model School at Onijanganjangan as a take-off site,” while also pleading “that the Model School at Idi Aba after FMC should be added.”

Reacting to the assurances from EES, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Usman Shanawa, said, “I have learnt a lot about Egbaland and I will go and tell my people at Zamfara to come and learn what Egba Economic Summit is doing,” stating that “Egbaland is worthy of emulation by other parts of the country.”

He directed the Vice Chancellor to “collaborate with Egba Economic Summit Group and Abeokuta Club, among other stakeholders that are willing to support the university.”

He also promised that “the host community, which is Egbaland and Ogun State, will not be neglected in appointment and other considerations.”

In his vote of thanks to the delegation, the Registrar of FUMMSA, Dr. Gregory Olukayode Obayomi, promised that “the university will continue to collaborate with Egba Economic Summit Group and Egbaland as the host community.”

Other principal officers who received the delegation included the Bursar, Mrs. Adedokun Omolola Olufunso, and the University Librarian, Dr. Idiat Odunola Agboola.

Other Governing Council members present were Kabiru Yahaya, Chinenye Moses, Uyiosasere Ekhosuehi, and Joshua Adewale.

EES and FUMMSA agreed that the engagement will be regular going forward.

TINUBU: A consistent politician — Gbenga Adeoye

The harm that humanity has done to many great men on earth is that we chose to talk about them after their deaths, but it is a good idea to write or say to the world and to the ears of concerned persons their good deeds while they remained with us.

What that does to the people is that it makes them feel good to continue to do good, and also makes them happy that their deeds are all noted.

God is also in the habit of making a vow and rewarding great men who choose to do extraordinary things. He vowed to David that his lineage would forever occupy the throne of Israel. For every cross, there is a crown. Those who do good will reap their reward on earth and thereafter.

The Pareto principles have also shown me that people focus more on just a few negative things about good people, and if care is not taken, those other fantastic things could be neglected.

Therefore, as an observer of events in Nigeria and a researcher trained in the fields of Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Management and Law, I have these to say about Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A consistent politician

He is the only one among many big Politicians in Nigeria who remained consistent in political ideology. From SDP to AD, ACN and APC, he has remained a leader in his party after the exit of Chief MKO Abiola.

Other politicians aspiring to be presidents and Governors had cause to run to him in the past. Even Buhari won in 2015 because Tinubu backed him up. We all know the details.

If Asiwaju tells you to go ahead he will support you. You can just go to sleep. He is not a hypocrite when it comes to his political alignment and support declaration for anyone. No one can dispute this in Nigeria. While some play safe by supporting three or four candidates, Tinubu has remained consistent as a committed leader of his party in Nigeria.

No wonder, the system he laid down in Lagos is still working. With the GAC and other systems in place, no state can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Lagos. I think politicians in Ogun State and indeed all of us need to go to School in Lagos to learn politics from Tinubu Political & Governance University (TPGU)

A determined politician

He is so focused that he does not shift from his goal. As a golfer, we have one word during our training which says “. EYES ON THE BALL.” His eyes are always on the ball. No wonder, he has never lost any election.
When, in 2022, the gang up against him at his party became intense, he didn't back out. He used his political skills to get the ticket.
Tinubu spoke like a professor of history in my town at Abeokuta, and from that day when he explained the trajectory of his journey in politics and why it had become his turn, I knew he was determined.
After his speech in Abeokuta, spiritually, all obstacles were removed, and the rest is history.

By the way, Egbaland is a land where people get inspiration to lead and win their wars. He was able to enter the list of those who received their miracles on the soil of my town. The city of many firsts. Everything major in Nigeria started from Abeokuta. I'm so proud of our town and city as an Egba man.

Somehow, Asiwaju tapped into that anointing in Egbaland as he spoke like one under the control of the Holy Spirit when he said EMI LOKAN. Indeed, it was his turn, and God said YES because of where those words were spoken.

Therefore, if you desire anything good, just come to Abeokuta and visit Alake, go to Itoku and Olumo Rock and try to visit St. Peter Cathedral, the first church in Nigeria and your prayers will be stamped by God with the word.. AMEN… Try it.

A patient politician

When others were looking for Presidential tickets in 2007, he was busy building the party. In 2011, he remained a leader and not contesting election. In 2015, he supported Buhari with all his energy and campaigned round the country.

He does not rush at anything. He waited patiently until 2023 to run, and he won.
Even when Atiku needed a ticket, he gave him. He once supported a wonderful NSA, Nuhu Ribadu. Those are the guys who have seen him inside out and can testify to his personality. If you listen to Ribadu speak about Tinubu with his words such as Tinubu Gains. You will know he has a very deep understanding of the man called Asiwaju.
Even when his boys that he has put in power at any position offends him, he will just wait patiently until the second term. Ambode can testify to that. He does not rush to punish an offender or react in a rush to any matter.

A liberal politician

I'm not sure if in Nigeria today, there is any politician who is as liberal as Asiwaju.
A lot of Nigerians do not understand why many opposition members are going to APC...the main reason is that Asiwaju is so liberal and ready to welcome anyone willing to join his train, regardless of past differences. He wants the best for all. He does not segregate.

When he appointed some people to be ministers… People started wondering why he should appoint those who once spoke negatively about him.

He cares less about other factors as long as you are intelligent and you can deliver.
His focus is intellect and capacity to deliver, not one that just hate people because of their political statement or affiliation.

Why did Daniel Bwala Joined him? Because he is a liberal man. Many more are coming to be with him. Even during this holiday for Eid Kabir. He received many people, and some people just get angry because he received those they think are his enemies. Asiwaju is not that kind of person who will fence people off. If there is anything of such, it may be coming from people around him acting selfishly and not based on any instruction from him to so do.

Why do you think Ogunlewe and Obanikoro are with him? Just look at a brilliant Fashola...why do you think they are with him. Why did Pedro return? A liberal man.
A brilliant Professor of Law; Prof Osinbajo worked with him, and he ensured the man became number 2 in Nigeria .why do you think they worked with him?

Yemi Cardoso and my own brother from Abeokuta Wale Edun, CBN Governor and Minister of Finance respectively , Why do you think they  worked with him, and now they are with him?

Segun Sowunmi who is another brother from my town, why is he speaking wonderfully about Asiwaju now? Because Asiwaju is a brilliant and liberal politician.
Why did Bosun Tijani  joined his cabinet? Or my learned friend Jumoke Oduwole? Simply because he is a brilliant and liberal politician.

Should I talk about the performing minister of FCT. Wike? He joined Tinubu because he saw in him a focused, brilliant and liberal politician.

Akwa Ibom and Delta State Governor are now in APC for the same reason.
Contrary to the view of people about migration from PDP and other parties to APC, in my considered – personal-opinion , we have too many political parties and we may need to adopt IBB method of just two parties. We don't need  too many political parties in Nigeria if our democracy must grow with viable opposition.

We can just have APC and one other party in Nigeria. Tinubu's cabinet is like the government of National Unity, and so members of other political parties consider APC as a good place to go to. That again underscore the liberal nature of the leader of that party. Can they buy all the migrants? Are they all having problems that pursued them to APC? I don’t think so.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a CONSISTENT, DETERMINED, PATIENT AND LIBERAL Politician that Nigeria has ever produced. I pray that we can have at least one of his type in every state in Nigeria.

As we celebrate June 12 and M.K.O Abiola’s  Victory of 1993, who is another man from my  town , Abeokuta again. I PRAY FOR PEACE, PROSPERITY, AND PROGRESS in Nigeria.

My only request from Mr President is to declare a state of  Emergency in the power sector. If we have light , development will be accelerated.

I commend the government for the student loan programme. I also commend the president for the revival of cotton farms in Ogun State which is a major breakthrough that will reshape the textile industry in Nigeria

Since Dr. Opeifa is my friend, and he is  now the MD of Nigerian Railway Corporation, by way of advice, let's buy more trains for Lagos Ibadan rail line. Let's link Lagos to Abuja by train.

Let us keep pushing the upgrade of our tourist locations in Nigeria. I have a strong believe that Nigeria is now on the path of GREATNESS.

Happy democracy day to all Nigerians.

Segun Sowunmi sends message to Nigerian children

In a heartfelt Children's Day message, an Egba chief and leader of the PDP, Segun Sowunmi, has charged Nigerian children to apply themselves to things that edify.

In the message, Sowunmi urged them to stay focused amidst distractions.

He emphasised the importance of preserving their unique African culture and traditions, noting that these have been passed down through generations to "define who we are."

According to Sowunmi, it's essential for the younger generation to hold on to their cultural heritage while remaining open to incremental improvements that can aid their survival and success.

"Do not see culture and tradition as static but open your souls to incremental improvements that aid your survival and thriving of yourself as individuals and the collective,” he said.

Sowunmi also stressed the significance of community and collective responsibility, quoting the African proverb, "I am because you are."

This philosophy, he noted, encourages individuals to be their brother's and sister's keeper, promoting a strong and supportive society.

Expressing his confidence in the younger generation, Sowunmi stated, "I see the signs of a glorious future emerging."

He wished the children well, invoking divine guidance and protection as they strive to make their mark on the world.

"May the owner of life be with you as you strive. Have fun on the one day dedicated to you our future,” he said.

May Day: Gbenga Adeoye seeks improved welfare package for workers

A financial expert, Gbenga Adeoye, has called on the government and all employers to improve the welfare of the workers.

As the world celebrates Workers Day, Adeoye said if the workers work well, there will be national development and if they don't, nations will fail.

“As we celebrate workers day today; I charge Nigerian workers to treat every human being and entities whose file appear on their table as their employer.

“It has been a major problem in Nigeria that workers treat people who need anything from them like beggars who need their favour but rather it should be service with joy and patriotic attitude,” he said.

Adeoye charged agencies like NAFDAC, SON, FAN, EFCC, ICPC, FIRS, State IRS, Immigration, Customs, CBN, BOI, Police, Army, Navy, DSS, traffic agencies, education, power, health ministries, and others to treat people as their employers and reason for the existence of their agency, ministries, or commission .

“Let us imbibe the culture of service by doing some of the followings : Treat file promptly; Get to work at the right time; Face your work when you resume; Don't act as if your service is a favour; Let's not make life difficult for investors. Don't delay CofO for years as it is today; Don't delay any approval; Don't create bottlenecks with hidden agenda,” he advised.

As for the government, he charged them to ensure workers are able to have decent shelter, decent transport system, car, office, salaries and wages, and decent treatment.

“Carry them along. Don't just post unqualified staff to department they have no capacity and training to handle. Round pegs in round holes and square pegs in square holes. Pay gratuity immediately they retire. Ensure civil servants are allowed to do regular development. Fill vacancies to avoid stress and pressure on hard-working civil servants,” he urged the government.

“There is no country without a vibrant and reliable civil servants as they are the engine room of National service and governance, and they drive policies and programmes of the country. Happy Workers Day,” Adeoye added.

TASUED: Adeoye asks Abiodun to upgrade Abeokuta technical college to university

A financial expert and legal practitioner, Gbenga Adeoye has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun to upgrade the Abeokuta Technical College to a university.

This was in reaction to the takeover of the Tai Solarin University of Education by the Federal Government.

Adeoye celebrated former Governor Gbenga Daniel for establishing TASUED during his tenure.

“This man OGD came up with the idea of ICT Colleges which later became Polytechnics in all the three Senatorial District. Igbesa and Saapade people will never forget the impact .We have Adegbenro ICT in the central too and Amb Toye Okanlawon was appointed by Dapo Abiodun as Chairman of council.

“South West ICT training centre in Abeokuta also came during his tenure. He wanted the Stock Exchange in Abeokuta too. That same OGD built Laderin Estate for Civil servants at a price less than N800,000. I have professional colleagues who are beneficiaries.

“TASUED is solid enough for Federal Government to adopt it. Glory to God. It remains the first university of education in Nigeria. To this end, I say congratulations to Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Ogun State and my inlaws, the Ijebus and Awujale because the university is on the land of the Ijebus (more or else in preparation for Ijebu State. I pray it becomes a reality). When a university is appraised and found good for adoption by FGN in one's domain, then it calls for celebration,” he stated.

Adeoye maintained that the next action should be how to turn the technical college to a university with campuses in all the three senatorial districts.

“Next is for us to see how we can turn the Technical College at Abeokuta to Abeokuta Technical University (ATU) with campuses in all the three Senatorial District and main Campus at Idi Aba Abeokuta.

“I urge Prince Dapo Abiodun to act fast and make history by converting Technical College Idi-Aba to Abeokuta Technical University just as TASUED is making history today and no one can forget OGD who laid the foundation.

“I volunteer to provide pro bono support service to bring this to reality,” he stated.

He also begged that Federal Government to retain the name as 'TASUED' and not attempt to change it.

“TASUED is now a Federal University just as UNILAG remains a Federal University and the beauty of that great University is to keep the name, TASUED.

“May God bless OGD, God bless Amosun, God bless Dapo Abiodun and his team , God bless Ogun State, God bless Nigeria, God bless Tinubu, God bless the Minister of Education and NUC.

“I also pray that God will bless the Ijebu Heritage Group and other Associations; both known and unknown, and those who worked behind closed doors to ensure TASUED becomes a Federal University of Education,” he submitted.

Egbas condemn sale of land belonging to Technical School, Idi-Aba

Think thank groups in Egbaland have come out to strongly oppose the demarcation and selling of estate land at the Technical School, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In a statement signed by notable Egba businessmen in Abeokuta on February 8, the Egbas held that the land should be left as part of the Technical School for its future growth into a university.

They said: “Technical Education is vital to the industrial development of Ogun State.

“A member of Egba Economic Summit facilitated over $1m worth of equipment into the Technical School some years ago. The school is positioned to become a Technical University in the future.

The land beside the school was the estate where most Commissioners lived when Ogun State was created about 49 years ago. Notable properties in the area include Baptist Girls' College, and if their land had not been sold over the years, the current growth would not have been easily accommodated.

“A member of the Egba Economic Summit also built the clinic and the computer lab of the technical school. All Egbas home and abroad are therefore in opposition to any form of disposal of the said land, and it should be left to serve as part of the technical school land to enhance the future transformation of the school into a Technical University to build young men and women to feed the industrial growth in Ogun State.”

They warned that the Egbas will not fold their hands and allow all the labour of Ogun State's past heroes to be wasted just like that.

“If the land is sold to anyone, this write-up should serve as notice of caveat emptor and such a person will be confronted to forfeit same to the technical school through all legitimate methods available to us.

“We therefore appeal to the Ogun State Government and all agencies of the government to desist from such a plan,” a statement by the Egba Economic Summit Group and all Egba Think Tank warned.

Ajibola celebrates Segun Showunmi on his birthday

A Public Relations Consultant, Worldfamous Ajibola Oluwafidipo, has celebrated Otunba Segun Showunmi on his birthday describing him as a league of his own.

Ajibola writes:

Otunba Segun Showunmi, you are in a league of your own, no one comes close

When I met you some time ago, and I saw your passion and desire to ensure that our great nation begin to live to it potential maximally, I had thought you were one of the few who are naturally Apostolic only on Sundays and Satanic from Monday to Saturday, meaning, the interest is just a caricature, but as time goes on, the tempo has not dropped, the desire is being ardently pursued, the pain you bear when you discuss the state of the Nation with me in the closet, is the same you carried to the media and say it to the world the way it is.

When I consider the amount of money you spent on media, I, then realized that there is more to this than what an average politician carried, if it was appointment, I know many times you have been offered juicy ones which you declined, you told me in one of our closet discussions that not all appointments are to be taken.

It took me time to understand your philosophy and the reason for this vigorous pursuit for a great Nigeria, having seen many politicians that when they are an inch closer to the gate of power, the rhythm changes, but for you, steadfastness is entrenched, you will say it the way it is, I learnt from you that one should not wait for applause and that even if what you are saying is unpopular among the elites, once it serves the interest of the masses stick to it.

Otunba Segun Showunmi, you are in a league of your own, in a class of your own Excellency, you are not like them, who say 10 words and one cannot be proven to be true.

The funniest thing is that the minute majority that you are speaking to advocate for, are the ones being paid stipends to come attack you on social media, you still make efforts to enlighten them and give them reasons why the people in government should do better.

Showunmi I started laughing the day I realized you know all of them like the palm of your hand, all the blood suckers who are milking the political system dry, the day I know how they come behind the seen to salute you for speaking senses into their senseless skulls, then I realized that these people are naturally wicked and heartless and that it will take a conscientious effort of a true patriot like you to set their brain in the right order.

Sagua, do not worry if you are under celebrated, this is the world where people will offer Jesus to be killed instead of a thief, do not commit it to heart when they over celebrate you this is the world where they will say Hossanah today, crucify him tomorrow, just keep doing your things, the future is now, it will only get better.

Another thrilling thing about you is your compassion for the poor, you are the type who help people without setting a camera or shouting at the rooftop, even Rep members, Senate member, Executives who are robbing Peter to pay Paul are always taking camera to capture what they are using our common wealth for so that we can ignorantly applaud them.

I salute your courage, the ranting of a mad rabid dog is not given a second thought by you, rather you roar and walk away leaving them trembling and fearful.

Permit me to borrow some lines from a traditional poem written by Adedeji Babalola titled 'Salute to an Elephant'

Ajanaku, the possessor of a savings- basket full of money, O Elephant huge as a hill, even in crouching posture, O elephant, enfolded by honour, Segun, flapping fans of war, Segun Showunmi who snaps tree branches into many pieces and moves on to the forest farm, you ignore “I have fled to my father for refuge", let alone 'to my mother'.

A mountainous Animal, a huge beast who tears a man with words like a garment and mold those who deserve to be molded with same, and hangs them up on a tree.

The sight of you causes political thieves to stampede towards a hill of safety, (their Godfather), Ajanaku who walks with a heavy tread. Showunmi who swallows their antics and hatred bunches whole, even with the spiky pistil-cells.

Showunmi who single-handedly causes a tremor in a dense tropical forest.

Otunba whom one sees and points towards with all one's fingers.

Their political boast at home is not repeated when they really meet the Showunmi, just the way the hunter's boast at home is not repeated before the elephant.

Oh the great swordsmith, the coiner of his words, this is part and parcel of the Segun Showunmi's appellation.

If you wish to know the Showunmi, he continually swings his trunk sprinkling water of relief on all and sundry.

Oh Sagua respectfully called the Solomon of our time by all.

Your analysis always makes them stayed glued to their seats, the man they call to thank for helping them solve their almighty formula.

Anthony that they see and call him Ekun, the only man who will not sugarcoat a bitter pill, no matter how close to Otunba he will not hesitate to give you your coin, the man I call Conscience of the Nation, title that are usually given to those who will speak the truth in the face of persecution and tyranny.

As you celebrate another landmark today, may the good Lord continue to uphold you and grant you peace in Jesus name.

As we champion the need to embrace the alternative ways of doing things apart from their crooked ways, may the light of God illuminates your path the more…

The future we have been waiting for is here…

Don't forget the ladder that took you up, Showunmi tells Fubara

Segun Showunmi

A former Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State not to forget the ladder that took him to the top, urging him to be wary of the antics of hypocrites as he clocks 50.

Showunmi said that while he would never support anyone playing God in the life of another person, Fubara should, however, not forget those who held the ladder for him while climbing up and must therefore prioritise good governance above every other consideration.

The PDP leader disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, issued to rejoice with the Rivers governor on the occasion of his 50th birthday.

Showunmi urged Fubara to "Beware of friends who scream your praises, and never forget to always find space to reconnect with yourself, within yourself.

"It is the nature of people to praise today and curse immediately when the tides turn and you have fewer favours to dispense. It is especially so in that environment where you operate.

"I have been around long enough to see them for the hypocrites they are, nevertheless, I trust that you will take things in your strides."

The PDP leader disclosed that Fubara must always remember that he is governor today by the efforts of men and the grace of God, he must therefore use the enviable position to impact his space and do as much good as he can to all that comes his way.

Showunmi said, "Amongst the words of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida that have stayed with me and will stay with me forever is what I wish to gift you on the occasion of your Golden jubilee.

"He is said to have said that when climbing onto the top of the leadership ladder, someone or some people own the ladder you use to climb and that as you climb they become smaller in one's eyes for you are elevated by the ascension.

"They will keep their ladder, the top will get very hot for you at some point as it has for all at the top sometimes, if you treat the owners of the ladder mindfully, they will produce the ladder for your climb down otherwise they will leave you to jump down with its attendant consequences."

Showunmi added that Fubara must therefore put in his best in leadership, and create new leaders for the greatness of Rivers State while the Almighty God who is a mighty man of battle will continue to uphold his government and family.

Amosun a positively stubborn politician — Gbenga Adeoye

A financial expert, Gbenga Adeoye, has congratulated Senator Ibikunle Amosun, describing him as a positively stubborn politician.

In a statement, Adeoye said Amosun has remained positively stubborn as he moves closer to age 70.

Adeoye likened Amosun to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who he said he never shifted focus.

“As Senator Ibikunle Amosun move closer to age 70; he has remained positively stubborn as a politician. A few times I interacted with him; he showed a high level of courage and a strong stand for whatever he believes in. I can then describe him as a POSITIVELY STUBBORN POLITICIAN.

“Anyway; we have Baba OBJ also as a father in Egbaland who does not shift his focus, and he is never afraid to be the only one with a different view. Perhaps; for OBJ; I can understand him as a Soldier, but for Amosun; a civilian; it took special study for me to understand his philosophy,” Adeoye said.

He added that Amosun does not shift ground if he believes in something, stressing that he does not pretend about his choice in any matter.

Adeoye spoke further: “He does not act like a chameleon. If Amosun tells you he is going to Sapon, go to Sapon; you will meet him there, even if that Sapon appears dangerous in terms of what you think is achievable there.

“When he was embarking on the Landmark projects in Ogun State; he once visited my mentor; Dr. Onaolapo Soleye among other consultations or what could be called notifications to explain why he must demolish some houses to make sure Abeokuta wore the right look of a state capital.

“The elders were worried about his demolition plans, but he convinced them and he succeeded. He did the same at Sagamu and Ijebu Ode. Those roads and bridges are still standing today.

“What baffled me at a time was his support for a candidate for a governorship and I kept wondering how a man could be so determined to go in a particular direction and invest time and money yet some of us felt that candidate may not win, but he does not shake by your views or assumptions.

I now went further to do research into what was his motivation for any goal he wants to pursue; then I discovered he has a slogan that pushes him in anything he does- ’EYI OWU AWI, TOLUWA LASE'. (No matter what men say God's will shall be the final reality") What a high level of faith.

“I pray that as he celebrates his 67th birthday; May God honour his faith and trust in all his pursuits both in business and politics.

“May God give him the good health required to support his age while I charge him to now behave as Baba 70 since he is 3 years to 70, meaning he cannot walk from his house to Ita Eko or to Ijaye and to Ake Palace like before.

“He should also become soft and flexible just like I told one of our Babas like him to slow down and be soft towards anyone he feels is not doing well by advising them on what to do and leave the rest.

Happy birthday Senator Omolaja Ibikunle Amosun, wishing him peace and daily joy.

While appreciating Amosun for the arcade ground under construction in Ake palace, Showunmi, said it is time for Amosun to encourage a political review of Ogun Central, especially with 2027 in view.

The PDP chieftain noted that Egba's legislative representation right now is very weak compared to its peers in Ogun East and especially Ogun West.

According to him, the zone must work hard to correct this going forward.

He said it is expedient to put forward better materials to get the best representation.

His words:

Happy Birthday Sen Ibikunle Amosun. On the occasion of this particular birthday of yours, I find my mind in deep reflection on your trajectory in politics especially your immense contributions to our homestead Ogun Central.

I want to thank you for the huge financial support to the ongoing project in the arcade of the Ake Palace Ground. It becomes more needing of mention for I am aware that even after office the project has continued to enjoy your generosity.

As we proceed I believe it is time for you to encourage a political review of Ogun Central relative to how we play with 2027 in view.

There is no begging the issue that our legislative representation right now is very weak compared to our peers in Ogun East and especially Ogun West.

We must work very hard to correct this going forward. I think that it is expedient that we put forward better materials less we mope who'd the other senatorial district get their deserving rewards as a result of the quality of members put forward.

Reflect on this as we sustainably plan the future. Many Happy Returns.
