Ewa Ede set to create 2,000 jobs in Ogun


No fewer than 2,000 unemployed youths and women would be taken off the labour market in Ogun State as Ewa Ede Foundation concluded plans to train them in modern Adire techniques.

Aside from empowering the participants, the training is also an opportunity to promote the aesthetics of Yoruba culture, norms and tradition.

It was gathered that the training would commence on December 10 to 17, giving interested participants the opportunity to learn handcraft and establishing a career out of it for themselves.

At a press conference on Friday, the convener of the foundation, Princess Adejoke Somoye, launched the Adire Textile Training and Exhibition (ATTE 2021). 

Somoye stated that that the free training would be for people between ages 18 and 38, saying it is to commemorate the foundation's 10th anniversary.

She explained that the foundation would pay for the training, which she said was imperative as a result of a lot to say to the world the rise in the unemployment index of the country. 

“Having carefully examined the rising spate of unemployment index in our nation, we as a non-governmental foundation have carefully designed the session to enable participants acquiring the skill and empowering them to be financially independent, towards curbing the high rate of unemployment amongst youths,” she said.

Somoye added that a starter kit and materials would be made available to participants for them to practice with during the training session. 

According to Somoye, training for each of the 2,000 participant would cost N30,000, making a total of N60million in all.
