Ogun doctors are irresponsible - Gov Abiodun [VIDEO]

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has in a video lambasted resident doctors of the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

In a video, Abiodun described them as irresponsible for asking for wage increase at a time the state is fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said he was disappointed in them, saying their decision to embark on strike might have political inclination.

Buhari sacks Osinbajo's aides: See why

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dismissal of some of his aides who were attached to the Office of the Vice-President.

Osinbajo, it was learnt, had more aides than President Buhari. Some of them were appointed while Osinbajo was acting as President when Buhari was out of the country for over 130 non-consecutive days in London in 2017, according to Punch.

A top source at the Presidency said, “It is true that many of VP’s aides were given termination letters last night. However, I cannot confirm the exact number because it was not done in public. But you know it is political.

“Some of those dismissed are those who have been made redundant since the VP’s duties have been reduced and some of the social investment programmes have been put under other ministries.”

The VP, who was saddled with the responsibility of running the economy as well as the social investment programmes in the first term of the President, is believed to have twice the number of aides that work directly with the President.

Aides to the Vice-President as of 2017 according to Premium Times was about 52 while that of the President was 25.

However, other appointments were said to have been made for Osinbajo which were never made public.

Some others, it was learnt, were being paid by donor agencies and not directly from the Federal Government’s purse.

The President appointed additional aides for Osinbajo in August 2019. They include Ahmad Zakari as Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, as Senior Special Assistant on Education Interventions, Louis Odion as Senior Technical Assistant on Print Media, and Ajuri Ngelale as Senior Special Assistant for Public Affairs in the Presidency.

There have been reports about the attempts by the ‘cabal’ within the Presidency to water down the power and duties of Osinbajo since the second term kicked off.

Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, had said on Tuesday that the Vice-President had been made redundant as he was no longer a relevant member of Buhari’s government.

The President has also failed to transmit power to Osinbajo anytime he travels for long periods as he had done in previous years.

Abiodun thanks GNI for working against Ogun West agenda by rejecting collaborations with Akinlade

Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has reportedly appreciated Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka for refusing to collaborate with Hon. Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied People's Movement (APM) in the March 9 governorship election in Ogun State, Tribune newspaper reports. 

Abiodun, it was learnt, said this while hosting Isiaka and leaders of the African Democratic Congress, ADC in his office on Monday.

Tribune newspaper said, "Reliable sources within the meeting quoted Governor Abiodun to have expressed great satisfaction with the development.

"While addressing the group, the governor said “Isiaka displayed great sportsmanship in the last election” describing him as a “man of integrity and character.”

"Abiodun commended the ADC stalwart for resisting offers to collaborate with the Allied People’s Movement (APM) or the Ladi Adebutu faction of the PDP in the last election, noting that this singular act was crucial to his own eventual victory at the polls."

Abiodun's comment, as reported by Tribune newspaper, is an indication that Isiaka was in the race to make Abiodun win, thereby spoiling the chances of Ogun West. 

Abiodun recently boasted during Sagamu Day Festival that his tribe Remo would continue to lead Ogun State, praising God for giving Remoland another chance another rare privilege to rule Ogun State again after former Governor Gbenga Daniel, who ruled from 2003 to 2011. 

African Advocate reports that Akinlade and Isiaka are from Ogun West, the only geopolitical zone that has not ruled Ogun State since it was created 40 years ago. 

During the election, Isiaka, on a radio programme, said he rejected offers from the then Gov Ibikunle Amosun to join forces with Akinlade, even after Hon. Ladi Adebutu, has declared his support for Ogun West. 

Political observers in Ogun State have since opined that the refusal of Isiaka to team up with Akinlade was the reason why Ogun West lost another brighter chance to rule Ogun State. But his followers have given different reasons for his refusal to work with Amosun.

In the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission said Abiodun polled 241,670 votes, Akinlade scored 222,153 votes and GNI came third with 110,442 votes. 

Meanwhile, Isiaka has hinted that he would officially announce his defection to the APC soon with his Believe Movement members. 

This would mean that Isiaka, who has contested to be governor of Ogun three times, has given up on the race.

Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Yinka Ayefele has finally opened up on why he kept the news of the birth of his triplets from the public. 

At a point when the news was broken by some trigger happy media platforms, the singer vehemently denied it, saying it wasn’t true.

Although many have come to know of the truth but Ayefele officially made it public in an interview with Vanguard’s Potpourri.

“Yes, I even denied it once when it happened. When the news broke a lot of people were talking about it because my babies were very tiny because they were born prematurely. So, I was afraid to broadcast. 

I did not want to lose them after the long wait and according to a Yoruba adage that says if you broadcast a child you might lose the child, so, I decided to keep it within the family until they are fully grown and healthy.

“That is why I denied it when the news got out. But my partner told me not to be afraid, that God, who gave the kids will surely protect them and that was when I came out to tell people. I was initially afraid of how they looked, very tiny, thank God today they are big.

“It was hard to keep it a secret. A lot of colleagues in the media knew about it but I told them to hold on till the right time to broadcast it. I tried as much as I could to keep the news from getting out, I did not release any of their pictures,” he said.

He confirmed that the triplets; two boys and a girl were born on January 18, 2019 at Holy Cross Hospital in the USA. 

He also explained how it felt like, from the moment his wife was confirmed pregnant till the time the babies arrived.

“It was stage by stage. Are you asking me when we first went for the pregnancy test or when the pregnancy was a month, 3 months, 6 months or 9 months, or during labour or the day my wife gave birth? 

"I can’t explain it each month from the 8th day she was confirmed pregnant. I most ran mad when I heard she was pregnant.

“I could not believe it after series of attempts. I didn’t know who to explained it to, but the night she gave birth it was as if I have seen them together before because I have followed her to many scan sessions. It was like welcoming them fully that night. I can’t really tell how I felt that night,” he said.

Speaking further, he said he could not believe his eyes when his wife got pregnant and was full of gratitude to God when the triplets were born as many had thought he could never have a child after 22 years of marriage.

“I don’t mind having triplets, even if I can go as far as having 20, I really don’t mind because the pain of looking for a child was so aggravating. 

"It wasn’t easy going to mountains for prayers, going to different hospitals, both at home and abroad, doing one test to the other. 

"Yinka Ayefele is on a wheelchair, people think I can’t get a woman pregnant because of my situation, because of my spinal cord issue. Eventually, God blessed me with triplets,” he said.

Gov Abiodun makes new appointment in Ogun

Gov Dapo Abiodun on Thursday approved the appointment of the Chairman, Secretary and other members of the Judicial Service Commission in Ogun State.

The seven-member commission is to oversee the activities of the judicial arm of government in the state.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Judicial Service Commission will have the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu as Chairman, while Mr Kolawole Peters will serve as the Secretary.

Other members of the commission, DAILY POST learnt, include, Attorney General of the state, Barr. Joel Soyinka; Barr. Nurudeen Aina; Yetunde Adesanya and Sola Elegbeji.

Talabi said the commission would  be inaugurated soon.

I stole baby to deceive my husband that I was truly pregnant - Woman confesses in Abeokuta

A middle-aged woman, Falilat Olatunji, was on Wednesday arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing a four-month-old baby boy in Abeokuta. 

It was  learnt that the suspect was arrested following a report by one Alhaji  Abdul Akeem Dawodu, who reported at Sabo Ilupeju Police Station that one Ms Taiwo Bello was washing her clothes behind the house at Iyana Kajola, Mile 2, Abeokuta; leaving her four month old baby, Ibrahim Bello, sleeping in the room.

 She reportedly got back to the room and discovered that the baby had been taken away by an unknown person. 

It was said that the woman raised alarm, which attracted a lot of people to the house.

Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, "Upon the report, the DPO, Sabo Ilupeju division, CSP Alhasan AbdulAzeez, mobilized his detectives to the scene and commenced a full scale investigation into the case."

Oyeyemi informed that the efforts of the police yielded positive result when the suspect was sighted at Ilewo Orile with the baby and was promptly arrested. 

"On interrogation, the suspect, who resides at 23, Jawando street Ayobo Lagos confessed stealing the baby, but claimed that she only wanted to use the baby to deceive her husband whom she had earlier informed that she got pregnant for as the product of the pregnancy."

Investigation further revealed that the suspect was once squatting in the same house with the parents of the baby and that she was present during the naming ceremony of the same baby.

The baby, police said, had been reunited with his parents.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution. 

Makama equally appealed to members of the public to always beware of people around them; saying "there are a lot of wolves in human skin."

Parents groan as payment of PTA levies resumes in Ogun public schools

Indications have emerged that pupils in public schools and technical colleges in Ogun State have resumed payment of the controversial Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) levies.

Government, however, said some leaders of the PTA in Ogun State were the brain behind Gov Dapo Abiodun’s decision to lift the ban placed on payment of levies in Ogun public primary and secondary schools as well as technical colleges.

DAILY POST recalled that Gov Abiodun on September 21, ordered the suspension of a controversial N3,700 ‘donation’ reportedly introduced by the Parents/Teachers’ Association (PTA) for payment by pupils in all the state’s public secondary schools and technical colleges.

While suspending the fees at an Education Summit held in Abeokuta, Abiodun said: “I have been criticised in the media because of the fee. I did not introduce the N3,700 PTA levy. This fee predates this administration and our understanding is that the previous administration adopted it because it was a proposal that was accepted by parents and teachers.

“But, the truth is that as acceptable as it would have been; it kind of negates the principle of free education.

“We cannot be double speaking; we cannot be saying one thing and be doing something else. We must be seen as an administration that is accountable to the people just like our promises.

“I told my team to look critically into this issue and they brought it to me and I saw insurance, cap and others.

“I have told them to go and look at how we can make this work without having to charge anybody.

“The first step is to restore the running cost so that it does not look as if we are taking that and they will not have anything to run the schools. The running cost has been restored pending the time we look into the issue and find a lasting solution to it.

“The N3,700 has been suspended for now until the committee comes up with recommendations”.

The Governor, however, made a U-turn a few weeks after, when the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said in a circular that schools could collect PTA levies, but the PTA in any school or college must get the approval of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology before embarking on the collection of such levies. 

This, the government said was in line with the PTA’s constitution, which is at liberty to donate in support of the government to provide or rehabilitate infrastructural facilities, employ and support PTA teachers, guards, develop sports etc.

Government, however, directed that no pupil should be discriminated against if his parents failed to pay the fee, which was termed ‘donation’.

DAILY POST gathered that many public primary and secondary schools across the state have since started collecting levies from their pupils.

According to reports from parents who spoke with our correspondent, some headteachers and principals are charging between N1,900 and above.

It was also gathered that some secondary schools charge pupils in JSS 1 N2,500 for seats.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians, most of whom were not aware of the fact that government has lifted the suspension placed on payment of PTA levies, have been lamenting; accusing the headteachers of corrupt practices.

DAILY POST gathered that parents living in Ogun-Oyo border communities in Odeda Local Government area of the state have resorted to enrolling their kids in schools owned by the Oyo State government following Gov Seyi Makinde’s abolition of all fees in Oyo State public primary and secondary schools.

Speaking with our correspondent on phone, an official in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Mrs Bamidele Makinde, told DAILY POST that Gov Abiodun stands on making education free in all primary and secondary schools as well as technical colleges in Ogun.

However, Makinde, who is authorised by government to answer questions on the issue, said some PTA leaders approached the Governor, asking him to allow payment of PTA levies across the state; giving this as the reason why payment of levies might have been back in Ogun public schools.

“Gov Abiodun still stands on making education free in public schools in the state. But some PTA leaders kept going to the governor that they want to be paying levies.

“When they kept disturbing the governor, he told them to go and hold a meeting so as to agree on what to pay.

“He told them to put their agreement on writing and forward it to him in a letter; stating what they want to be paying and what the money will be used for. So that government will look into it.” she stated.

Asked if schools have been writing to the Ministry of Education for approval before they start demanding fees from pupils, Makinde said she would not know.

“I don’t know if they have been getting approval for the collection of PTA levies, unless I asked those in charge of that duty,” she said.

A Vice Principal in one of the secondary schools in Abeokuta told our correspondent that education cannot be absolutely free in Ogun State.

The Vice Principal, who pleaded anonymity, maintained that government alone cannot fund education in the state; saying parents must pay something to support their children’s education.

He confirmed that government had given running cost to schools in the state; adding, however, that the money was not enough to cater for all expenses, especially payment of stipends to PTA teachers.

MAPOLY releases 1st batch admission list

The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital,has announced the release of the first batch admission list of candidates into Full-Time and Part-Time, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Programmes of the polytechnic for the 2019/2020 academic session.

A statement by the Head, Public Relations and Protocol, Yemi Ajibola, on Wednesday said.

Ajibola said candidates, who must have been offered provisional admission on the respective lists, have till November 15 2019 to pay the non-refundable acceptance fee via the polytechnic’s portal on www.mapoly.edu.ng.

He informed that candidates, whose names are not on the 1st batch, should be hopeful on the subsequent lists.

163 persons die in Ogun road crashes

No fewer than 163 persons have died in various road crashes in Ogun State between January and September 2019.

A statement from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps on Monday said 123 men and 40 women were the dead victims.

According to the statement signed by Cdr Ajayi Michael Babatunde, the Director, Traffic Planning, Research and Statistics, “TRACE Corps has recorded, between January and September 2019, a total number of 527 road crashes involving 134 private cars, 93 private buses, 213 commercial cars, 32 motorcycles, 5 tricycles, 143 commercial buses, 113 medium trucks and 102 heavy trucks.”

Babatunde informed that, “During the period, 3,702 persons were involved in Road Traffic Crashes, out of which 817 persons (513 males, 304 females) sustained various degrees of injuries, 163 persons(123 males, 40 females) killed and 2,722 persons were rescued unhurt due to prompt response to 416 emergency calls received by TRACE Corps.”

It was reported that 49.18% of the road crashes was caused by excessive speed, 21.09% was caused by dangerous driving, 10.38% by bad tyres, 4.16% from driving against traffic and 15.19% was caused by other causes.

The traffic regulatory agency stated further that 2,367 motor vehicles and 1,331 motorcycles were apprehended for 5,488 offences; adding that “the above report was witnessed by TRACE Corps in areas covered only.”

“Our resolve to reduce deaths and injuries on all roads in Ogun State is being pursued vigorously and relentlessly such that no traffic offender shall go unpunished.

“TRACE Corps Commander/CEO appreciates the unflinching support of the Traffic Whistle-Blowers throughout the state for their ever prompt information whenever there is any crash on our roads.

“TRACE Corps is hereby appealing to the motoring public to obey all traffic rules and remember that safety is the responsibility of all road users,” Babatunde advised.

Bribery allegations rock Ogun APC as members battle over commissioner list

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is enmeshed in allegations of bribery as members are accusing leaders of collecting money from some individuals to make the list of Commissioners in Gov Dapo Abiodun-led government.

Gov Abiodun is yet to form his cabinet since his administration came on board in May 2019.

However, there are indications that after a caucus meeting of the party recently, leaders were asked to submit names of nominees for Commissioners from the 20 local governments of the state.

This, DAILY POST learnt, has brought about a lot of intrigues among Ogun APC members as they struggle to outsmart each other in clinching the available slots.

In Ijebu East, Hon. Tunde Oladunjoye, who is the Publicity Secretary for Ogun State APC Caretaker Committee, as well as other leaders of the party, was accused of collecting money from a nominee, Kehinde Oluwadare, before forwarding his name as the choice of the party from the Local Government.

But Oladunjoye said, “It is sheer bunkum to say some leaders were bribed to pick the Commissioner nominee for Ijebu East LG in the person of Kehinde Sunday Oluwadare, popularly called Hacco.”

DAILY POST gathered that three persons had earlier indicated interest from Ijebu East. They are: Dr. Tiamiyu and Mr. Niyi Ogunfadebo, both from Ijebu Ife Ward One, and Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare from Ijebu Ife Ward Two.

It was learnt that Mr Ogunfadebo and his team were not pleased with the choice of Oluwadare as the Commissioner nominee from Ijebu East.

There were allegations that some elders of the party were given N500,000, while some were promised monthly ‘returns’ by Oluwadare if he becomes the Commissioner from Ijebu East.

However, reacting to the allegations in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Monday, Oladunjoye said:

“The nominees were asked to write a formal application letter to the APC leadership in Ijebu East LG and to standardize and represent their CVs.

“On Wednesday, when three LGs (Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside) in the Federal Constituency met in Ijebu Ife, surprisingly, all the three LGs came with two nominees each and different number of delegates. First the issue of number of delegates was resolved as it was limited to five people per LG. Ijebu North was very vociferous, insisting that it had two state constituencies. The delegates from Ijebu North were told that we are equal local governments recognized by the Nigerian Constitution. So their ten delegates were reduced to five.

“As the meeting progressed, all the LGs were asked to take a break to go and reduce their commissioner nominees to one per LG. They all complied in line with the directives of the State Caucus meeting of the party held in Abeokuta on October 11, 2019.

“All factors considered, the Ijebu East delegates picked Kehinde Hacco over and above Mr. Ogunfadebo. I was not at the meeting, but I was ably represented by Hon. J. O. Okunuga, the immediate past Education Secretary of the LG.

“Among factors considered were educational qualifications, local and international exposure, past roles in the party and personal traits like carriage, comportment and temperament.

“It is, therefore, sickening for anyone or group of people to allege that some leaders were given money to arrive at such decision and were promised monthly funds. Very laughable.

“Unfortunately these allegations are coming from our LG alone. That speaks a lot on why our LG has remained where it was for about nine years now.

“The lawyers will say, you cannot approbate and reprobate. Will these baseless allegations have come up if it was Mr. Ogunfadebo that was picked? Why will you write application to a committee of elders, thereby submitting to its authority, and later said you are objecting to the composition after you realized you were not picked?

“Only one person can be picked for one slot. There was no way Ijebu East can send the names of two nominees.”

Also in his words, the much debated Ijebu East commissioner nominee, Oluwadare debunked the allegations of bribery levelled against him, saying, “nothing of such transpired. I was not trained to offer any inducement to get political favour.”

His words: “My attention has been drawn to various online and offline circulations where I was alleged to have bribed our revered leaders in Ijebu East for the endorsement of my nomination for the post of Commissioner in Ogun State.

“Ordinarily, I would have disregarded the whole development but it is said that when a lie is often repeated, it can start having semblance of truth. It is therefore expedient at this material time, to set the records straight and inform the general public, and particularly my constituent, that nothing of such transpired. I was not trained to offer any inducement to get political favour.

“I contested for the House of Representatives in the 2019 election. Despite not getting the party ticket, I didn’t leave the party or spoke ill of our revered leaders, rather I continued to serve the party more conscientiously than before. My nomination for the post of commissioner, which I accept with gratitude, is a confirmation of the love and my acceptance at the grassroot.

“In closing, I wish to impress it upon these detractors that in every contest there will always be a winner, but how we accept fate matters. I have been defeated before too, but I didn’t cry foul or drag the names of our respected leaders in the mud.

“My humble advice is for all of us to come together as one in the interest of our Local Government and in the development of Ogun State, under the leadership of our youth loving Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR.”

Remo will continue to lead Ogun State - Gov Abiodun

Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Saturday said his Remo division had been ruling and would continue to rule Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole in giant strides. 

Abiodun said this while speaking at the 2019 Sagamu Day Festival put together under the leadership of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi. 

The Governor, who was proud to be an indigene of Remo appreciated God for giving the tribe, another opportunity to rule Ogun State once again. 

African Advocate recalls that Otunba Gbenga Daniel, an indigene of Remo has ruled the state from 2003 to 2011.

This indicates that two sons of the Remo extraction have succeeded in ruling the state from Ogun East since the return of democracy in 1999; Ogun East is a zone that is dominated by the Ijebus.

However, the Yewa-Awori people have not relented in their agitations to, at least, rule Ogun State for once since the state was created 40 years ago. 

In his words, the elated Abiodun said, "God has given us once again in Remoland, another opportunity to be governor of this state. It's a rare privilege. We in Remo have continued to lead Ogun State in giant strides. We'll continue to lead this state, and not just this state, but we'll continue to lead in various aspects of endeavours of this country."

"We have the likes of Chief, Obafemi Awolowo; we have the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, we have the likes of Prof Ogunlesi and the list is endless. Let us continue to appreciate ourselves. 

"Today provides another opportunity for us to come together to celebrate our culture and ourselves and what we are as a people."

The Iperu-born Gov Abiodun boasted that among every five persons that has been showing up for government duties, three are from Remo.

"This administration decided that we will be characterised as one that has the right fit of people in the right places; and each time we do a search and we find five people to work for us, out of those five people, three of them will be from Remo land. Indeed, Remo land is blessed with a lot of stars all over the world. 

"I have to remind myself and my people that see, I'm not just the governor of Remoland alone, I'm the governor of Ogun. Anytime we want people to work for us, out of five, three are from Remo  This underscores the fact that only the best is good for us," Abiodun said. 

While assuring the people of his resolve to elevate Remoland, Abiodun urged the people to be patient. 

"I will continue to solicit for your patience. Please continue to lift this government up in prayers. This is your government. You entrusted this mandate to us. You must join hands with us." he added.

Ogun election: Appeal Court reserves judgment

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan Thursday reserved judgment in an appeal filed by Hon. Kolapo Osunsanya of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the September 9 verdict of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Recall that Barrister Taiwo Shote, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, had dragged Osunsanya before the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the February 23 National Assembly election in the constituency. 

It was reported that the Honourable Justice Wakkil Alkali  Gana-led election petition tribunal cancelled elections in Ward 5, Unit 5 in Ijebu Ode LGA; Ward 10, Unit 3 in Odogbolu LGA and the entire Ward 8 in Ijebu North East LGA in the Federal Constituency, ordering a rerun in the affected areas.  

However, Osunsanya has since filed an appeal against the judgement, asking the Appeal Court to upturn the decision of the lower tribunal. 

In the same vein, Shote also filed a counter-appeal, praying the court to nullify the entire election in Ijebu Central Federal Constituency and order a rerun; "having found that there were irregularities in the conduct of the election".

Meanwhile, three-man panel, led by Honourable Justice Jimi Bada of the appellate court reserved judgment after hearing from counsels to Shote and Osunsanya.

The Justice Bada-led panel said judgement would be delivered on a date to be communicated to parties.

Corpers to enjoy N30,000 minimum wage

Mr Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development on Wednesday said that members of the National Youth Service Corps would enjoy the new minimum wage of N30,000.

He said this via his official Twitter handle.

Dare said that the NYSC Director General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim would provide details of the new allowance after he has been briefed by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

He tweeted, “Next week the DG NYSC will provide details of the new ‘allowee’ for the Youth Corp members after full briefing from the Ministries of Finance And MYSD.”

The Federal Government had on April 18, 2019 agreed to pay N30,000 as the new minimum wage and on Friday, FG and organised labour agreed on the consequential adjustment, which had been a point of discussion for months.

On Wednesday, the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo issued a deadline for the payment of arrears on the minimum wage.

APM accuses Abiodun of setting Ogun along tribal lines, says he hates Egba

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Ogun State has accused the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun of attempts “to set the good people of Ogun State along tribal and regional lines.”

The party also added that “Abiodun’s clear hatred for the Egbas who voted against him in the last election is no secret.”

Egba, known as Ogun Central, is the senatorial district being represented by the immediate past Governor of Ogun, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, and capital of the state.

But Abiodun said he is not a provincialist; emphasising that the whole of Ogun State is his constituency and not a fraction of it.

The APM, in a statement signed by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Olumide Balogun and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, accused Abiodun of a “systematic attempt to relocate the Ogun State Governor’s office from Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, to his Iperu country home in Ogun East.” by allegedly printing a complimentary card that shows Iperu as the Governor’s office.

Balogun said, “Although the government spokesperson has expectedly tried to manage the unethical act by circulating another set of complementary cards, accusing their imaginary enemies of printing the first one and deny any complicity as usual, we are not surprised.

“Let us discuss the facts here, the Governor has refused to move into the Government House in Isale Igbein nor the Presidential lodge as it’s the practice. Some people even said that Abeokuta maybe too “local” for our ‘Emperor, King Dapo Abiodun’, compared to his Banana Island abode.”

Speaking further, the party said Abiodun, in line with, what it termed, his obvious ‘undo-all-projects by Amosun’ policies, had “continued to concentrate the little palliative development of his administration in Ogun East at the detriment of Ogun Central, despite being the State capital, while Ogun West is unfortunately off-limits.

“It is almost tempting to believe that Gov. Dapo Abiodun is doing this to take National attention away from Abeokuta the State capital, to his hometown in Iperu as a payback to Sen. Ibikunle Amosun for opposing him in the last election.

“Despite issuing a rebuttal to disclaim his complimentary cards that leaked to social media, and the urgent circulation of a new one, the governor, Dapo Abiodun seems to forget that he uses his personal email address, telephone contacts and websites for business of government instead of the official contacts,” Balogun said.

The APM, in another development, berated Abiodun for his alleged refusal to distribute what it called the “over-exaggerated” patrol vans and motorcycles he purchased with tax payers money, even after handing over same to the Inspector General Of Police, Muhammed Adamu, on Septemeber 6.”

“APM totally condemns this open breach of public trust, unconstitutional moves, irresponsible political tactics and desperate quest to set our people against each other and waste of public resources.

“We understand perfectly that Gov Abiodun and his aides are still in shock that despite the rigged election and tainted tribunal judgement, the APM is waxing stronger on daily basis across the state.” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Gov Abiodun has debunked printing complimentary cards with Iperu as the Governor’s office; describing the card as fake;

Abiodun added that, “the cards were forged to insinuate that the seat of Government had relocated to the Governor’s country home at Iperu-Remo.”

Reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, Abiodun said he, “wishes to affirm that he had no hand in the fake complementary card bearing Iperu-Remo as his official office and would not reduce the office to a family estate.”

Constable recruitment: Hope for applicants not shortlisted in the last list

Applicants who were not shortlisted in the last list released on Sunday may keep hope alive as the Nigeria Police Force said the final and authenticated list is still on the way.

This indicates that "the list released last Sunday has been dismissed for another one that will accomodate more people in each state of the federation.

"This also means that some, whose names 'miraculously' get into the list might be shown the way out." A source told our correspondent.

African Advocate learnt that the recruitment exercise is supposed to be 12 successful applicants per state to arrive at the 10,000 constables to be recruited.

But the list released on Sunday has been said to be lopsided with some states getting more than 100% of the slots they would have got it Federal Character is observed.

A tweet by the NPF recruitment this morning said, "Dear Candidates, You are advised to exercise patience as the final and authenticated list of successful candidates,  including the date of resumption for training will be officially released and widely announced."

Police recruitment: PSC Chairman sends letter to Abba Kyari, defends legal action against IG

The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith, has written to the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, explaining the reasons for the legal action taken by the PSC against the police at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The commission is seeking an interlocutory injunction restraining the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, from going ahead with the recruitment of 10,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

The processes filed before the Federal High Court 5 on September 27, 2019, by Kanu Agabi (SAN), will be heard on October 23.

Smith in his letter dated October 16, stated that the commission and the police were involved in the recruitment process, but the force, he said, subsequently took over the exercise by unilaterally releasing the list of candidates for medical screening.

The police authorities had insisted on conducting the recruitment, saying the commission had no mandate to recruit men for the force.

Despite the PSC’s opposition and legal challenge, the force had last Sunday released the final list of successful candidates who had been directed to resume at 18 police colleges and training schools nationwide for the commencement of training on October 21.

Smith drew the COS’ attention to previous legal opinions by four Attorneys-General on the long-drawn recruitment dispute with the police authorities, noting that Kalu Agabi (2002), Bayo Ojo (2007), Mohammed Adoke (2010) and lately, the current Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (2019) had taken different positions on the issue.

The letter read, “Since the return to civil rule on May 29,1999, four legal opinions listed here have been issued. When the copy of the opinion of 2019 was received and it was observed that the only earlier opinion considered was that of 2010, the attention of the Attorney-General was drawn to his oversight in a letter from the commission.

“Please note that the legal advice of Kanu Agabi (SAN) and that of Bayo Ojo (SAN) expressly and exclusively vested the power of recruitment/appointment in the commission as against that of Mohammed Adobe and Abubakar Malami.”

“Because nothing was subsequently heard in the matter, the board of the commission met and decided to approach the Federal High Court, Abuja, for proper interpretation of section 30 of the Third Schedule of the constitution, which, amongst others, gave the commission the power of appointment of policemen,” the retired IG explained.

Smith further pointed out that the commission’s attention was drawn to the release of the final list of candidates by the force headquarters on October 14 despite the pending court case.

The PSC stated that the failure of the police authorities to break down the candidates’ list local government by local government made it suspect “the injection of names that ought not to be in the final list.”

Meanwhile, the police have claimed that the final list of candidates would be released “only after the receipt of the recruitment report and final vetting of the list by the IG, who is currently out of the country on an official assignment.”

The force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, in a statement on Saturday, advised candidates to wait for  “the final and authenticated list of successful candidates.”

Ogun indigenes warn Abiodun against associating himself with Gbenga Daniel

Ogun State indigenes have reacted to the visit by a former Governor of the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to the incumbent Governor, Dapo Abiodun in his office on Tuesday.

Daniel, who ruled the state from 2003 to 2011 is still facing charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged funds misappropriation during his tenure as the governor of Ogun.

Gov Abiodun on Wednesday uploaded pictures of himself and Daniel on his Facebook page, saying, “I received in audience, the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) who was on a courtesy visit, in my Oke Mosan Office. During his visit, OGD commended our government’s activities thus far, and he also wished our administration all the best.”

Abiodun’s post has since generated a lot of mixed reactions from his followers as they ‘furnished’ the post with all forms of comments.

There are many who warned Abiodun not to associate himself with the former Governor for reasons best known to them.

However, others commended the Governor for accommodating everybody in the State.

Disregard rumour, resume training on Monday for documentation - NPF to recruits

           

The nigeria Police Force has on Thursday night, through the 2019 recruitment official twitter handle, advised the shortlisted candidates for training to debunk rumour circulating on the social media that the list released for training had been cancelled.

The  tweet reaffirms the list, directing the recruits to proceed to training for documentation as the first stage of the training on the 21st - 25th, October, 2019.

Also, in a police wireless message circulating on the social media, it was deducted that, NPF has signaled all its training institutions, through the Department of Training and Development, informing them to make adequate arrangements to accommodate certain number of recruits as from 21st October, 2019.

It is no more a news that the recruitment exercise, right from the medical stage, has been generating discords between the NPF and the Police Service Commission, PSC. 

PSC in a press release on Monday has disowned the list and told candidates to disregard it.

However, this has never in any way affected the NPF in proceeding to the final stage of the recruitment exercise.

Buhari rejects Abiodun, Sanwo-Olu's bids to toll three federal roads

Plans by the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun and his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to commercialise the Ikorodu-Sagamu, Epe-Ijebu-Ode and Lagos-Abeokuta roads, by taking them over from the Federal Government seem to have suffered a setback as the Presidency did not agree to the proposal.

DAILY POST learnt that the Presidency refused to handover the three roads to the government of Ogun and Lagos States for undisclosed reasons.

DAILY POST reported in September that the duo of Abiodun and Sanwo-Olu had agreed to commercialise the three federal roads in order to make their maintenance an easy task; by allowing private investors fund and toll the roads so as to ease transportation of people from Lagos to Abeokuta.

However, Gov Abiodun, speaking on Thursday at the Statutory Meeting of Ogun State Council of Obas, held at the Obas Complex, Okemosan, Abeokuta, said the Presidency had replied in the negative to a joint letter written by the two states.

Abiodun disclosed that the Federal Government said it would rather partner with Lagos and Ogun in repairing the roads, instead of handing them over.

The Ogun State Governor, who was not satisfied with the decision of the Presidency, said he would re-echo the need to transfer the roads to Ogun and Lagos States in another meeting coming up later this month.

His words: “Governor Sanwo-Olu and I actually put pen on paper and wrote a joint letter to the Federal Government and demanded that these roads be handed over to us, so that we can commercialize them. We have since gotten a response from the Federal Government asking us that, rather than to transfer these roads to us, they want to partner with us.

“I was at Abuja last week to discuss this matter with the Presidency and they have asked us to come for a meeting. Because if you take a look at the Lagos-Ota road for an example, and look at the budget that has just been submitted; that budget provided for about N200 billion for federal roads. There is a road in Ogun State today that will cost about N60 billion to repair; just in Ogun State alone. So how can N200b suffice to repair roads in Nigeria. On the Lagos-Ota road, Federal Government is owing contractors N26 billion, so where do we start from?

“Last week, we had a meeting with the Presidency and Ministry of Finance and we’re looking at alternative means of funding these roads and we’re going to be visiting this issue of transferring the roads to us.”
