The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has ordered the immediate posting/redeployment of some Commissioners of Police to man some states.
Acting Commissoner of Police Olusegun Odumosu has been appointed to head Lagos.
Odumosu, who was in charge of security in the Presidential Taskforce on Apapa congestion, would take over headship of Lagos police from Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zubeiru Muazu.
According to a signal by the Police Force’s Secretary on behalf of the Inspector General (IG) Mohammed Adamu, the appointment was with immediate effect.
Six other Commissioners of Police (CPs) were posted to head Kano (Habu Ahmadu); Cross River (Nkereuwem Akpan); Ogun (Imohimi Edgal); Akwa Ibom (Kenneth Ebrimson); Edo (Lawal Jimeta) and Bauchi (Sule Maku) States.
Over 10 other Acting Commissioners of Police were posted to head various units and departments all geared towards consolidating on internal security gains.
A statement by police spokesman Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner (DCP), said the IG charged the newly deployed officers to improve on public safety and crime fighting.
“He also directs the new Commissioners of Police to work with relevant stakeholders in adopting aggressive, proactive and community based crime prevention strategies to combat crime in their areas of responsibility.
“In addition, the Inspector General of Police enjoins the citizens of the affected states to accord the Commissioners of Police maximum cooperation to ensure they succeed in the realisation of their mandate,” he said.
