May Day: Gbenga Adeoye seeks improved welfare package for workers

A financial expert, Gbenga Adeoye, has called on the government and all employers to improve the welfare of the workers.

As the world celebrates Workers Day, Adeoye said if the workers work well, there will be national development and if they don't, nations will fail.

“As we celebrate workers day today; I charge Nigerian workers to treat every human being and entities whose file appear on their table as their employer.

“It has been a major problem in Nigeria that workers treat people who need anything from them like beggars who need their favour but rather it should be service with joy and patriotic attitude,” he said.

Adeoye charged agencies like NAFDAC, SON, FAN, EFCC, ICPC, FIRS, State IRS, Immigration, Customs, CBN, BOI, Police, Army, Navy, DSS, traffic agencies, education, power, health ministries, and others to treat people as their employers and reason for the existence of their agency, ministries, or commission .

“Let us imbibe the culture of service by doing some of the followings : Treat file promptly; Get to work at the right time; Face your work when you resume; Don't act as if your service is a favour; Let's not make life difficult for investors. Don't delay CofO for years as it is today; Don't delay any approval; Don't create bottlenecks with hidden agenda,” he advised.

As for the government, he charged them to ensure workers are able to have decent shelter, decent transport system, car, office, salaries and wages, and decent treatment.

“Carry them along. Don't just post unqualified staff to department they have no capacity and training to handle. Round pegs in round holes and square pegs in square holes. Pay gratuity immediately they retire. Ensure civil servants are allowed to do regular development. Fill vacancies to avoid stress and pressure on hard-working civil servants,” he urged the government.

“There is no country without a vibrant and reliable civil servants as they are the engine room of National service and governance, and they drive policies and programmes of the country. Happy Workers Day,” Adeoye added.
