INEC set to create more polling units in Ogun, others

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said it would by the first quarter of 2020 take courageous decisions on the creation of additional polling units in Ogun and other states of the federation.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, announced this at a dialogue session organised by the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (Situation Room), in Abuja.

The session was held with INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) ahead of Bayelsa and Kogi states governorship elections.

Okoye said that the commission would consult critical stakeholders and take bold steps and decisions on ”the creation of additional polling units and alterations and or adjustment of constituencies.”

He said that the commission could no longer continue with the ad hoc procedure of creating Voting Points and Voting Point Settlements.

The current arrangements of voting points according to him is stop-gap measures to ease the voting process and create opportunities for people in new settlements not covered by previous polling units.

Okoye said that the commission would also work in collaboration with the National Assembly and the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation in effecting reforms to the electoral legal framework.

He urged Nigerians to have faith in the electoral process and work towards democratic consolidation.

Okoye noted that at the conclusion of the 2019 general elections, aggrieved parties and candidates filed and served the commission with 807 petitions.

He said that the number was, however, regarded by some people as huge and a sign of regression in the electoral process.

“However, as at the Oct. 25, the petitioners withdrew 190 petitions while 570 were dismissed, four are still pending while 42 of the petitions were determined in favour of the petitioners,” he said.

Okoye also urged civil society groups and organisations to train their observers well.

He said that observers must conform to the code of conduct and exhibit a high sense of patriotism in carrying out their observations.

Speaking on the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections, Okoye urged all political parties, their candidateselection and all the major stakeholders in the to respect and protect the right of the registered voters to free choice.

He said that voters must be allowed to go to the polling units unmolested, without fear, without intimidation and without being harmed.

“Our young men and women that have volunteered to serve as ad hoc must be allowed to serve without harassment, intimidation or threat of losing their lives.

“To this end, the commission will not accept or tolerate any form of harm on its ad hoc electoral personnel.

“We will on no account tolerate siege on its Collation Centres or the declaration and returns made under dubious circumstances,” Okoye said.

He said that the commission would move for greater clarity relating to the powers of its Collation/ Returning Officers.

He added that INEC had put in place better processes and procedures that would prevent the violation of the powers to make declarations and return under the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Okoye also urged all categories of ad hoc staff, including Collation and Returning Officers to pay close attention to their trainers.

“The sorting, collation, declaration and returns in election are simple and at the same time complex.

“Innocuous mistakes and alterations that may be overlooked in certain and normal circumstances sometimes lead to fatal consequences in the electoral process.

“Majority of our ad hoc staff performed creditably in the last general elections and other previous elections and we commend their commitment and patriotism.

“However, the commission has banned some ad hoc staff who abused the trust reposed on them during the 2019 general elections,” he said. (NAN)

Gov Abiodun makes new appointment in Ogun

Gov Dapo Abiodun on Thursday approved the appointment of the Chairman, Secretary and other members of the Judicial Service Commission in Ogun State.

The seven-member commission is to oversee the activities of the judicial arm of government in the state.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Judicial Service Commission will have the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu as Chairman, while Mr Kolawole Peters will serve as the Secretary.

Other members of the commission, DAILY POST learnt, include, Attorney General of the state, Barr. Joel Soyinka; Barr. Nurudeen Aina; Yetunde Adesanya and Sola Elegbeji.

Talabi said the commission would  be inaugurated soon.

I stole baby to deceive my husband that I was truly pregnant - Woman confesses in Abeokuta

A middle-aged woman, Falilat Olatunji, was on Wednesday arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stealing a four-month-old baby boy in Abeokuta. 

It was  learnt that the suspect was arrested following a report by one Alhaji  Abdul Akeem Dawodu, who reported at Sabo Ilupeju Police Station that one Ms Taiwo Bello was washing her clothes behind the house at Iyana Kajola, Mile 2, Abeokuta; leaving her four month old baby, Ibrahim Bello, sleeping in the room.

 She reportedly got back to the room and discovered that the baby had been taken away by an unknown person. 

It was said that the woman raised alarm, which attracted a lot of people to the house.

Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, "Upon the report, the DPO, Sabo Ilupeju division, CSP Alhasan AbdulAzeez, mobilized his detectives to the scene and commenced a full scale investigation into the case."

Oyeyemi informed that the efforts of the police yielded positive result when the suspect was sighted at Ilewo Orile with the baby and was promptly arrested. 

"On interrogation, the suspect, who resides at 23, Jawando street Ayobo Lagos confessed stealing the baby, but claimed that she only wanted to use the baby to deceive her husband whom she had earlier informed that she got pregnant for as the product of the pregnancy."

Investigation further revealed that the suspect was once squatting in the same house with the parents of the baby and that she was present during the naming ceremony of the same baby.

The baby, police said, had been reunited with his parents.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution. 

Makama equally appealed to members of the public to always beware of people around them; saying "there are a lot of wolves in human skin."

Association of Yahoo Boys' Mothers now in Lagos

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, lamented on Thursday that mothers of cyber fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys, are now organising themselves into an association.

Magu, who addressed journalists at the Lagos office of the commission in Ikoyi said such parents always justify their children’s activities with the arguments that they were supporting their families in the place of irresponsible, runaway or dead fathers.

Magu said the EFCC’s interest was not just to arrest the Yahoo boys but also to see to their rehabilitation

Parents groan as payment of PTA levies resumes in Ogun public schools

Indications have emerged that pupils in public schools and technical colleges in Ogun State have resumed payment of the controversial Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) levies.

Government, however, said some leaders of the PTA in Ogun State were the brain behind Gov Dapo Abiodun’s decision to lift the ban placed on payment of levies in Ogun public primary and secondary schools as well as technical colleges.

DAILY POST recalled that Gov Abiodun on September 21, ordered the suspension of a controversial N3,700 ‘donation’ reportedly introduced by the Parents/Teachers’ Association (PTA) for payment by pupils in all the state’s public secondary schools and technical colleges.

While suspending the fees at an Education Summit held in Abeokuta, Abiodun said: “I have been criticised in the media because of the fee. I did not introduce the N3,700 PTA levy. This fee predates this administration and our understanding is that the previous administration adopted it because it was a proposal that was accepted by parents and teachers.

“But, the truth is that as acceptable as it would have been; it kind of negates the principle of free education.

“We cannot be double speaking; we cannot be saying one thing and be doing something else. We must be seen as an administration that is accountable to the people just like our promises.

“I told my team to look critically into this issue and they brought it to me and I saw insurance, cap and others.

“I have told them to go and look at how we can make this work without having to charge anybody.

“The first step is to restore the running cost so that it does not look as if we are taking that and they will not have anything to run the schools. The running cost has been restored pending the time we look into the issue and find a lasting solution to it.

“The N3,700 has been suspended for now until the committee comes up with recommendations”.

The Governor, however, made a U-turn a few weeks after, when the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said in a circular that schools could collect PTA levies, but the PTA in any school or college must get the approval of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology before embarking on the collection of such levies. 

This, the government said was in line with the PTA’s constitution, which is at liberty to donate in support of the government to provide or rehabilitate infrastructural facilities, employ and support PTA teachers, guards, develop sports etc.

Government, however, directed that no pupil should be discriminated against if his parents failed to pay the fee, which was termed ‘donation’.

DAILY POST gathered that many public primary and secondary schools across the state have since started collecting levies from their pupils.

According to reports from parents who spoke with our correspondent, some headteachers and principals are charging between N1,900 and above.

It was also gathered that some secondary schools charge pupils in JSS 1 N2,500 for seats.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians, most of whom were not aware of the fact that government has lifted the suspension placed on payment of PTA levies, have been lamenting; accusing the headteachers of corrupt practices.

DAILY POST gathered that parents living in Ogun-Oyo border communities in Odeda Local Government area of the state have resorted to enrolling their kids in schools owned by the Oyo State government following Gov Seyi Makinde’s abolition of all fees in Oyo State public primary and secondary schools.

Speaking with our correspondent on phone, an official in the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Mrs Bamidele Makinde, told DAILY POST that Gov Abiodun stands on making education free in all primary and secondary schools as well as technical colleges in Ogun.

However, Makinde, who is authorised by government to answer questions on the issue, said some PTA leaders approached the Governor, asking him to allow payment of PTA levies across the state; giving this as the reason why payment of levies might have been back in Ogun public schools.

“Gov Abiodun still stands on making education free in public schools in the state. But some PTA leaders kept going to the governor that they want to be paying levies.

“When they kept disturbing the governor, he told them to go and hold a meeting so as to agree on what to pay.

“He told them to put their agreement on writing and forward it to him in a letter; stating what they want to be paying and what the money will be used for. So that government will look into it.” she stated.

Asked if schools have been writing to the Ministry of Education for approval before they start demanding fees from pupils, Makinde said she would not know.

“I don’t know if they have been getting approval for the collection of PTA levies, unless I asked those in charge of that duty,” she said.

A Vice Principal in one of the secondary schools in Abeokuta told our correspondent that education cannot be absolutely free in Ogun State.

The Vice Principal, who pleaded anonymity, maintained that government alone cannot fund education in the state; saying parents must pay something to support their children’s education.

He confirmed that government had given running cost to schools in the state; adding, however, that the money was not enough to cater for all expenses, especially payment of stipends to PTA teachers.

MAPOLY releases 1st batch admission list

The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital,has announced the release of the first batch admission list of candidates into Full-Time and Part-Time, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Programmes of the polytechnic for the 2019/2020 academic session.

A statement by the Head, Public Relations and Protocol, Yemi Ajibola, on Wednesday said.

Ajibola said candidates, who must have been offered provisional admission on the respective lists, have till November 15 2019 to pay the non-refundable acceptance fee via the polytechnic’s portal on www.mapoly.edu.ng.

He informed that candidates, whose names are not on the 1st batch, should be hopeful on the subsequent lists.

163 persons die in Ogun road crashes

No fewer than 163 persons have died in various road crashes in Ogun State between January and September 2019.

A statement from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps on Monday said 123 men and 40 women were the dead victims.

According to the statement signed by Cdr Ajayi Michael Babatunde, the Director, Traffic Planning, Research and Statistics, “TRACE Corps has recorded, between January and September 2019, a total number of 527 road crashes involving 134 private cars, 93 private buses, 213 commercial cars, 32 motorcycles, 5 tricycles, 143 commercial buses, 113 medium trucks and 102 heavy trucks.”

Babatunde informed that, “During the period, 3,702 persons were involved in Road Traffic Crashes, out of which 817 persons (513 males, 304 females) sustained various degrees of injuries, 163 persons(123 males, 40 females) killed and 2,722 persons were rescued unhurt due to prompt response to 416 emergency calls received by TRACE Corps.”

It was reported that 49.18% of the road crashes was caused by excessive speed, 21.09% was caused by dangerous driving, 10.38% by bad tyres, 4.16% from driving against traffic and 15.19% was caused by other causes.

The traffic regulatory agency stated further that 2,367 motor vehicles and 1,331 motorcycles were apprehended for 5,488 offences; adding that “the above report was witnessed by TRACE Corps in areas covered only.”

“Our resolve to reduce deaths and injuries on all roads in Ogun State is being pursued vigorously and relentlessly such that no traffic offender shall go unpunished.

“TRACE Corps Commander/CEO appreciates the unflinching support of the Traffic Whistle-Blowers throughout the state for their ever prompt information whenever there is any crash on our roads.

“TRACE Corps is hereby appealing to the motoring public to obey all traffic rules and remember that safety is the responsibility of all road users,” Babatunde advised.

NYSC announces date 2019 Batch C Stream I orientation will begin

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has revealed when the Batch C, Stream I Orientation exercise would begin.

NYSC on Monday disclosed that the Batch C Stream I orientation exercise would commence on November 5, 2019.

In a tweet via its official Twitter handle, the scheme disclosed that the orientation exercise was to run from Tuesday, 5th November to Wednesday 4th December, 2019 across the country.

“This is to inform the general public that 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Exercise is scheduled to hold on Tuesday 5th November 2019,” NYSC tweeted.

CP Odumosu, others lobby for the seat of Lagos State commissioner of police

The seat of Lagos State Commissioner of Police becomes hot cake as CP Olushegun Odumosu and others lobby to take over from the outgoing CP, who has just been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Recall that the Police Service Commission just promoted some senior officers to their next rank in which the current Lagos CP, CP Muazu Zubaru and CP Iluyasu Alhmed of Kano state were beneficiary of the new promotion gallore.

Since the announcement of the said promotion, there have been speculations on who is to take over the leadership of Lagos state command from Zubaru. 

A reliable source, who does not want his name to be published, disclosed to our correspondent that the feud in appointing someone for the post is now the topic of discussion, as he stressed further that there is strong indication that the former Edo state Commissioner of Police,  CP Presidential Taskforce, Odumosu, who is currently on an assignment to clear the gridlock in Apapa wharf might be considered for the post.

Our source made us understand that the said Odumosu has the back up of the Lagos state cabals as they all want an indigene of Lagos to become the next CP of the state.

African Advocate also learnt that the seat is not being eyed by Odumosu only, but many other CPs across the country have been lobbying the IGP to take over the seat from Muazu.

However, it seems their efforts will end up in vain, because the Lagos state cabals are strongly behind Odumosu.

All matters will be unfolded at the ongoing conference holding at Victoria Island, organised for senior officers, as our source informed us that the former CP will be officially decorated with the rank of AIG and possibly the awaiting new Lagos might be unveiled to the public.

Bribery allegations rock Ogun APC as members battle over commissioner list

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is enmeshed in allegations of bribery as members are accusing leaders of collecting money from some individuals to make the list of Commissioners in Gov Dapo Abiodun-led government.

Gov Abiodun is yet to form his cabinet since his administration came on board in May 2019.

However, there are indications that after a caucus meeting of the party recently, leaders were asked to submit names of nominees for Commissioners from the 20 local governments of the state.

This, DAILY POST learnt, has brought about a lot of intrigues among Ogun APC members as they struggle to outsmart each other in clinching the available slots.

In Ijebu East, Hon. Tunde Oladunjoye, who is the Publicity Secretary for Ogun State APC Caretaker Committee, as well as other leaders of the party, was accused of collecting money from a nominee, Kehinde Oluwadare, before forwarding his name as the choice of the party from the Local Government.

But Oladunjoye said, “It is sheer bunkum to say some leaders were bribed to pick the Commissioner nominee for Ijebu East LG in the person of Kehinde Sunday Oluwadare, popularly called Hacco.”

DAILY POST gathered that three persons had earlier indicated interest from Ijebu East. They are: Dr. Tiamiyu and Mr. Niyi Ogunfadebo, both from Ijebu Ife Ward One, and Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare from Ijebu Ife Ward Two.

It was learnt that Mr Ogunfadebo and his team were not pleased with the choice of Oluwadare as the Commissioner nominee from Ijebu East.

There were allegations that some elders of the party were given N500,000, while some were promised monthly ‘returns’ by Oluwadare if he becomes the Commissioner from Ijebu East.

However, reacting to the allegations in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Monday, Oladunjoye said:

“The nominees were asked to write a formal application letter to the APC leadership in Ijebu East LG and to standardize and represent their CVs.

“On Wednesday, when three LGs (Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside) in the Federal Constituency met in Ijebu Ife, surprisingly, all the three LGs came with two nominees each and different number of delegates. First the issue of number of delegates was resolved as it was limited to five people per LG. Ijebu North was very vociferous, insisting that it had two state constituencies. The delegates from Ijebu North were told that we are equal local governments recognized by the Nigerian Constitution. So their ten delegates were reduced to five.

“As the meeting progressed, all the LGs were asked to take a break to go and reduce their commissioner nominees to one per LG. They all complied in line with the directives of the State Caucus meeting of the party held in Abeokuta on October 11, 2019.

“All factors considered, the Ijebu East delegates picked Kehinde Hacco over and above Mr. Ogunfadebo. I was not at the meeting, but I was ably represented by Hon. J. O. Okunuga, the immediate past Education Secretary of the LG.

“Among factors considered were educational qualifications, local and international exposure, past roles in the party and personal traits like carriage, comportment and temperament.

“It is, therefore, sickening for anyone or group of people to allege that some leaders were given money to arrive at such decision and were promised monthly funds. Very laughable.

“Unfortunately these allegations are coming from our LG alone. That speaks a lot on why our LG has remained where it was for about nine years now.

“The lawyers will say, you cannot approbate and reprobate. Will these baseless allegations have come up if it was Mr. Ogunfadebo that was picked? Why will you write application to a committee of elders, thereby submitting to its authority, and later said you are objecting to the composition after you realized you were not picked?

“Only one person can be picked for one slot. There was no way Ijebu East can send the names of two nominees.”

Also in his words, the much debated Ijebu East commissioner nominee, Oluwadare debunked the allegations of bribery levelled against him, saying, “nothing of such transpired. I was not trained to offer any inducement to get political favour.”

His words: “My attention has been drawn to various online and offline circulations where I was alleged to have bribed our revered leaders in Ijebu East for the endorsement of my nomination for the post of Commissioner in Ogun State.

“Ordinarily, I would have disregarded the whole development but it is said that when a lie is often repeated, it can start having semblance of truth. It is therefore expedient at this material time, to set the records straight and inform the general public, and particularly my constituent, that nothing of such transpired. I was not trained to offer any inducement to get political favour.

“I contested for the House of Representatives in the 2019 election. Despite not getting the party ticket, I didn’t leave the party or spoke ill of our revered leaders, rather I continued to serve the party more conscientiously than before. My nomination for the post of commissioner, which I accept with gratitude, is a confirmation of the love and my acceptance at the grassroot.

“In closing, I wish to impress it upon these detractors that in every contest there will always be a winner, but how we accept fate matters. I have been defeated before too, but I didn’t cry foul or drag the names of our respected leaders in the mud.

“My humble advice is for all of us to come together as one in the interest of our Local Government and in the development of Ogun State, under the leadership of our youth loving Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR.”

Policeman kills wife, kills himself in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified policeman has shot his wife dead for allegedly opting out of the union.

The man who lived with his Prison Warden wife inside Prison Barracks on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, was said to have shot himself afterwards.

It was gathered that the incident occurred Sunday night during a fight in their flat.

Officials were said to have evacuated the bodies just as most occupants of the building fled for fear of arrest.

Advice for new constables as you enter police training schools

I will like to congratulate all successful candidates, before disclosing to you the tasks ahead.

Police training is sweet, strict and educative. It is all about moral teaching and straight-forwardness.

Before anything, I will like to advise you to get all necessary things ready. I know many will be surprised what some items in the list are being used for in the training ground; items like cutlass and broom. 

BROOM: It is very important, especially for women and mostly used for fatigue.

CUTLASS: Important too, for both genders, it is mostly for fatigue.

BOOK: I know this is not listed in the items but it is very important. You will attend lectures, time without number and write notes like a secondary school students. Police don't joke with lectures, because that's where they teach morals and law you are going to enforce. After lectures, expect strict exams like that of a higher institution. Take it seriously because that's what they use to allocate force number.

DRESS: Your dress for the next 6-7 months is white on white with white socks and shoes. So it will be better you buy as many as you can. Though there's chance for muftis on Sundays alone. White is your uniform, take note.

TOILETRIES: it is important you get these too for your personal need, especially shaving stick with blades. Don't be surprised you will be shaving everyday and barb every week, you won't be permitted to leave your hair bushy at all. Police hate it when you are in training, because they believe that's the only way they can differentiate recruit from officers even if you wear mufti.

All other things to are important, get them ready before you proceed to training.

Before I move further, let me call your attention to this, either you are to train in premier college or training school, always have all these in your mind; at police training you don't have peace, you have no right, you must suffer and you must be intimidated irrespective of your qualification. 

Don't forget it's police training and not higher institution that you do Aluta. Any form of Aluta is mutiny and the punishment is summary dismissal.

SAY NO TO ASSUMPTIONS: Never assume anything. Assumptions can be seen as negligence. When  particular instruction is given, do what you're told to do without grumbling.

HIDE YOUR CIVILIAN CHARACTER: Police training is not where you prove stubbornness or that you are a barrack boy, your father is a police officer or you have godfather. Don't disclose your stubbornness. It is only the stupid ones that pass out; don't be smart, try and behave like you don't know anything. Police can treat your fuck up, irrespective of who your godfather is. They will send you home and training continues for the cool headed ones. So stay calm and let your godfather be proud of you.

STAY AWAY FROM INCRIMINATING ITEMS: Please never plan to go with prohibited items, hard drugs, India hemps, drinks and fetish items. If you are caught, you maybe dismissed.

Don't forget police do what's called dormitory inspection every week, no matter how you hide those items. they will find it. Be warned.

SICKNESS: There's a clinic there, so don't be afraid to report there if you're sick. But please don't visit the hospital more than 5 times before the training ends. Because once you become regular patient in the clinic, you might be considered not fit for the job, and if you don't have a godfather, you can be sent back home. It happens. But if truly your health can't accommodate the stress of training, it is better you let them know. Don't kill yourself by pretending to be fine. 

FOOD: This is where you will have little problem  I won't disclose the secret there but you will be fed, mostly with beans. However, it's advisable you go with provisions and other fast food items.

DON'T SHOW YOURSELF: Don't always bring yourself out or show yourself that you're brilliant, you are BSC holders or HND holders. Don't be surprised you will see someone with MSC, but he will never talk. Always humble yourself Your instructors may not have those qualifications you have acquired but they are more than you in the job; they know better than you do, you are just an ordinary recruit, yes you will be told that, sometimes it pains but you'll need to bear it. Forget certificate collected from higher institutions at home, it's not needed. 

MOVEMENT: Be informed that you are not permitted to walk in the compound, when you're alone or in twos, you jug, when you are in threes,  you match, if you disobey this, cell straight.

DOCUMENTATION: This is the first stage of the training, you will be documented before anything, so don't forget any of your documents that has to do with the recruitment at home. Get photocopies of everything ready and your passport photos with red background on white dress with your hair cut to the last skin.

DATING: Mind your business, don't go there and start chasing boy or girls around. Don't ever think of something like that,  if you're caught, you might be dismissed. And girls should strictly stay away from sex, if you're are caught pregnant, even two years after training, it's dismissal. Police go against that. Note that there are intelligent personel among you.

SOCIAL LIFE: Don't ever think of finding your way to go clubbing or any social activities, discipline starts from college, remember you are a police officer, you should be well behaved. Don't ever regret being there, think of your wonderful memories, don't forget who you're even when you're treated like trash, have the fate that one day you will pass out and have freedom.

RELIGION: There are mosques and churches. On Sundays, always wear loose clothes because you will be going to  church or mosque. Police believe in God so well, so you must go to church or mosque.

NEATNESS: Police hates dirtiness, you must be clean always, the offence for being dirty is called dirty in person, there's punishment for that. So always look fine. when we are clean and looking sharp, the public will respect us as a corp of this nation.

ACTIVITIES: The underlisted activities are the on you should expect in training, and it's very important you attend all everyday because there will be a punishment for absentees; 

1. Morning Fatigue: This takes place at about 0400hrs, your will be gathered on parade ground, then conduct a morning prayer and direct  to go and clean up the surroundings before breakfast 

2. Muster: Morning parade before lecture, there you will be checked properly and trained on some soft parade before class.

3. Lecture: As i said earlier police don't joke with lecture, definitely there's time for that.

4. Afternoon Drill: After lecture is when you will be thought parade proper, just be ready to dig, do more exercise to ease your movements.

5. Evening Fatigue: Afternoon lunch you will fall in again for fatigue, police like fatigue you can't miss 20 before the training ends.

6. Tatto: This is parade done in the night for checking, you must not miss it, because all of you must be counted and completed before you go to bed. Don't be surprised after that after this you may be waked up in the midnight and be punished.

This is my piece of advice, obey all college rules, stay away of those things that might put you in trouble, don't enter extra fatigue and never fail to give any officer compliment, it's their food, they can ruin your life because of it, greet them 10 times if you see them 10 times, don't ever say you've greeted them before,  eye service greetings is allowed.

Remo will continue to lead Ogun State - Gov Abiodun

Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Saturday said his Remo division had been ruling and would continue to rule Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole in giant strides. 

Abiodun said this while speaking at the 2019 Sagamu Day Festival put together under the leadership of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi. 

The Governor, who was proud to be an indigene of Remo appreciated God for giving the tribe, another opportunity to rule Ogun State once again. 

African Advocate recalls that Otunba Gbenga Daniel, an indigene of Remo has ruled the state from 2003 to 2011.

This indicates that two sons of the Remo extraction have succeeded in ruling the state from Ogun East since the return of democracy in 1999; Ogun East is a zone that is dominated by the Ijebus.

However, the Yewa-Awori people have not relented in their agitations to, at least, rule Ogun State for once since the state was created 40 years ago. 

In his words, the elated Abiodun said, "God has given us once again in Remoland, another opportunity to be governor of this state. It's a rare privilege. We in Remo have continued to lead Ogun State in giant strides. We'll continue to lead this state, and not just this state, but we'll continue to lead in various aspects of endeavours of this country."

"We have the likes of Chief, Obafemi Awolowo; we have the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, we have the likes of Prof Ogunlesi and the list is endless. Let us continue to appreciate ourselves. 

"Today provides another opportunity for us to come together to celebrate our culture and ourselves and what we are as a people."

The Iperu-born Gov Abiodun boasted that among every five persons that has been showing up for government duties, three are from Remo.

"This administration decided that we will be characterised as one that has the right fit of people in the right places; and each time we do a search and we find five people to work for us, out of those five people, three of them will be from Remo land. Indeed, Remo land is blessed with a lot of stars all over the world. 

"I have to remind myself and my people that see, I'm not just the governor of Remoland alone, I'm the governor of Ogun. Anytime we want people to work for us, out of five, three are from Remo  This underscores the fact that only the best is good for us," Abiodun said. 

While assuring the people of his resolve to elevate Remoland, Abiodun urged the people to be patient. 

"I will continue to solicit for your patience. Please continue to lift this government up in prayers. This is your government. You entrusted this mandate to us. You must join hands with us." he added.

Ogun Commissioners list: APC battles PDP, ADC other opposition parties for slots

Politicians in Ogun State are currently having sleepless nights as they make concerted efforts to be part of Gov Dapo  Abiodun's kitchen cabinet, African Advocate reports.

Across the 20 local governments of the state, it has been one crisis or the other. - leaders against leaders, groups against groups, youths against women. Sadly, it has been resulting in physical assaults.

Interestingly, the battle to make the list of commissioners in Ogun is not restricted to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as politicians in other political parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). African Democratic Congress (ADC) and others are equally running around to outsmart one another.

This development is currently brewing unhealthy relationship within the APC as members agitate that appointment of commissioners in Ogun should be solely an APC affair; notwithstanding the fact that some opposition political parties worked for the party in the March 9 governorship election. 

Earlier on July 4, the Governor had written the State House of Assembly, requesting for appointment deferment of commissioners in favour of senior special advisers, special advisers, senior special assistants and the likes. However, his recent statement seems to have lifted the deferment placed on the appointment of commissioners.

It was reported that Gov Abiodun, after a closed-door meeting with leaders of the APC in Ogun, told newsmen that his list of commissioners would be ready soon; a pronouncement that has brought about individuals across party lines going caps-in-hand to lobby the governor or his allies for slots. 

Barely a week after the APC caucus meeting, Abiodun met separately with the Chairman of the PDP in Ogun, Bayo Dayo; the governorship candidate of the ADC in Ogun, Gboyega Isiaka and a former Governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel.  

Though neither Abiodun nor his visitors revealed the purpose of their meetings to newsmen, it was learnt their talks might not be unconnected to the submission of nominees for appointment as Commissioners.

Recall that Daniel, few days to the governorship election, directed all his followers to vote for Abiodun. He has since defected from the PDP to the APC after the general elections.

On the other hand, there are speculations that Isiaka of the ADC, Sen. Buruji Kashamu of the PDP and some other governorship candidates in Ogun, worked for Abiodun's victory in the March 9 election in Ogun State. 

As a result, Abiodun, it was learnt, has decided to compensate those who stood up for him during the election by giving them the opportunity to be in his cabinet.

But Abiodun's decision to appoint members of opposition political parties into his cabinet did not go down well with leaders and members of the APC.

Abiodun once hinted that the leadership of the APC are not in support of his decision to run an all-inclusive government by appointing people from other political parties into his cabinet. 

Already, youths and elders of the party are not pleased that appointments that should have come to them are going the way of those in  opposition parties. 

While the elders are keeping mute, the youths have written open letters to Abiodun and their leaders, complaining about the development; telling him not to use and dump them. They yesterday requested for 40% appointment. 

It seems Abiodun has succeeded in appeasing the elders of Ogun APC as he appointed 51 of them into his Governor's Elders Council. This is as some youths have also been fixed into various committees. 

To Abiodun, his cabinet should be one that is made up of technocrats and successful individuals from the private sector, regardless of whether or not they are politicians. 

But a source in the APC told our correspondent that party leaders would not be happy with the Governor if he failed to fulfill his promise to compensate those who worked 'tirelessly' for his electoral victory by giving them appointments into his kitchen cabinet.

"We all know we may not get anything from Abuja as former Governor Ibikunle Amosun is the one holding the ace up there. But we must not open our eyes and watch state appointments elude us. That will be unfair." the source said

It was gathered that Abiodun’s commissioners’ list has in recent time, become subject of controversy within the leadership of the All Progressive Congress, as the party was said to have rejected the quota allegedly allotted to it out of the 20 commissioners expected in the state.

Meanwhile, African Advocate learnt that national leaders of the party like Chief Olusegun Osoba, Chief Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Adams Oshiomhole and others are major factors determining what Abiodun's list of commissioners will look like, even as he mulled having 50 per cent of his cabinet allotted to women. 

Ogun election: Appeal Court reserves judgment

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan Thursday reserved judgment in an appeal filed by Hon. Kolapo Osunsanya of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the September 9 verdict of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Recall that Barrister Taiwo Shote, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, had dragged Osunsanya before the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the February 23 National Assembly election in the constituency. 

It was reported that the Honourable Justice Wakkil Alkali  Gana-led election petition tribunal cancelled elections in Ward 5, Unit 5 in Ijebu Ode LGA; Ward 10, Unit 3 in Odogbolu LGA and the entire Ward 8 in Ijebu North East LGA in the Federal Constituency, ordering a rerun in the affected areas.  

However, Osunsanya has since filed an appeal against the judgement, asking the Appeal Court to upturn the decision of the lower tribunal. 

In the same vein, Shote also filed a counter-appeal, praying the court to nullify the entire election in Ijebu Central Federal Constituency and order a rerun; "having found that there were irregularities in the conduct of the election".

Meanwhile, three-man panel, led by Honourable Justice Jimi Bada of the appellate court reserved judgment after hearing from counsels to Shote and Osunsanya.

The Justice Bada-led panel said judgement would be delivered on a date to be communicated to parties.

Breaking: Police release list of successful constables, ignore court order

The Nigeria Police Force has released the list of successful applicants in the ongoing  controversial 10,000 constable recruitment, despite a court order that status quo be maintained in the recruitment exercise. 

It was reported yesterday that the Federal High Court, Abuja suspended the planned recruitment of 10,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.  

The Police Service Commission, PSC, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1120/19 had dragged the NPF, the Inspector General of Police, IGP and the Minister of Police Affairs to court as first, second and third respondents respectively.

The PSC sought an interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants, their officers and representatives including anybody or person acting on their behalf from appointing, recruiting or attempting to appoint or recruit by any means whatsoever any person into any office in the first defendant pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The NPF had last week announced that members of the general public, particularly candidates who participated in the recruitment exercise were advised to note that the final list of successful candidates would be released only after the receipt of the Recruitment Report and final vetting of the list by the IGP.

However, the NPF on Thursday evening said "the Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni, has vetted and given approval for the release of the final and authenticated list of successful candidates who participated in the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force. Corpers to enjoy N30,000 minimum wage

Mr Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development on Wednesday said that members of the National Youth Service Corps would enjoy the new minimum wage of N30,000.

He said this via his official Twitter handle.

Dare said that the NYSC Director General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim would provide details of the new allowance after he has been briefed by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

He tweeted, “Next week the DG NYSC will provide details of the new ‘allowee’ for the Youth Corp members after full briefing from the Ministries of Finance And MYSD.”

The Federal Government had on April 18, 2019 agreed to pay N30,000 as the new minimum wage and on Friday, FG and organised labour agreed on the consequential adjustment, which had been a point of discussion for months.

On Wednesday, the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo issued a deadline for the payment of arrears on the minimum wage.

Upgrade of MAUTECH to cost N17.4billion - NUC

The Federal Government is to spend the sum of N17.4 billion for the upgrade of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology to a conventional university and take-off of medical school in the institution. The chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC) committee for the review of the law establishing MAUTech, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while submitting the committee report to the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof Abubakar Rasheed.

The committee also recommended renaming of the University to Madibbo Adama University, Yola to reflect its conversion from specialised institution to conventional status.

He explained that N10.6 billion would be required to mount medical programme and requisite facilities needed for the College of Medical Sciences at the University.

Ribadu also revealed that based on the committee’s gap analysis, the government would require N6.8 billion to upgrade the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, to a Teaching Hospital.

The conversion of Modibbo Adama University of Technology to conventional University followed a bill sponsored at the Senate by Senator Ashatu Ahmed representing Adamawa Central senatorial district in the 9th Assembly.

Ahmed who had been on the struggle for the conversion of the University to conventional status from when she was elected to the Federal House of Representatives, had argued that this would create more space for admission of students in the area devastated by horrendous activities of Boko Haram insurgents.

Thus, following the directive of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, NUC Executive Secretary inaugurated the 8-man committee chaired by Ribadu to among other things, examine the adequacy or otherwise of the provisions of the law to support the introduction of medical education in the University.

The committee was also mandated to consider the possibility of the University running programmes in the medical sciences to enable the Governing Council to mobilise requisite resources, including the identification of a teaching hospital to provide relevant services for training of medical personnel.

Ribadu, who is a Visiting Professor at NUC, further disclosed that the University has proposed an intake of 50 students to commence medical programme during 2020/2021 academic session.

He also recommended that a draft establishment Bill be sent to the National Assembly since the current Federal University of Technology Act CAP F23 LFN 2004 would no longer be applicable to the institution.

Senator Ashatu, however, disclosed at the event that the Bill on reviewing the establishment law of the University has sailed through First Reading in the floor of the Senate and action would be concluded on it after resumption from recess for Christmas and New Year.

NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Rasheed while receiving the report said the management of the Commission would study the report before it is forwarded to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who would, in turn, present it to the Senate President for implementation.

He commended the efforts of Senator Aishatu and her colleagues from Adamawa State as well as the meticulous work done by the committee.

Rasheed said: “The implication of what you have done is that Yola may commence medical programme from this year. Other universities in the country who are in similar position who have the desire can replicate what you have done because reverberating effect.

“We are concerned about the state of medical education in Nigeria. We are really concerned about the space available to read medicine in universities in Nigeria, which makes many Nigerians to go outside to study medicine at all cost,” he said.

Video shows Abiodun saying FG refused to handover three federal roads to Ogun, Lagos

Contrary to claims by the government of Ogun State that the report about federal government refusing to hand over three federal roads to Ogun and Lagos states is fake, a video has confirmed that Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun actually disclosed that the Presidency said it would rather partner with the two states in repairing the roads, instead of transferring them to Ogun and Lagos.

African Advocate reported on Friday that Plans by the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun and his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to commercialise the Ikorodu-Sagamu, Epe-Ijebu-Ode and Lagos-Abeokuta roads, by taking them over from the Federal Government seem to have suffered a setback as the Presidency did not agree to the proposal. 

But the Ogun government, through the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Dapo Abiodun, Kunle Somorin, on Saturday, dismissed claims that the federal government had rejected the offer made by it and the Lagos State government to repair and toll the three federal roads linking the two states.

Recall that Abiodun had hinted in September that he and Sanwo-Olu had concluded plans to take over the three federal roads from the federal government.  

According to the video, the Governor, during a statutory meeting of Ogun State Council of Obas on Thursday said "Governor Sanwo-Olu and I actually put pen on paper and wrote a joint letter to the Federal Government and demanded that these roads be handed over to us, so that we can commercialize them."

He, however, made known the response of the Federal Government when he said, "We have since gotten a response from the Federal Government asking us that, rather than to transfer these roads to us, they want to partner with us."

This is an attestation that the Federal Government did not subscribe to the request of the two governors, who have in a joint letter requested that the three roads be handed over to them for repairs and tolling. 

From Gov Abiodun's statement in the video, what the two governors requested for was outright take over of those roads from the Federal Government and not partnership, which the Presidency did not grant.

The video contradicts the statement credited to Somorin that the news was fake or that it was reported by some unpatriotic media.
